Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) Program

Eligibility : The candidate must have passed Master's degree in the concerned subject OR Masters degree in any one of the allied subjects pertaining to the Department/School as per rules provided in the ordinance, with at least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average.

Admission Process :
Admission is normally done two times a year (March and September terms) based on a Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) conducted by the University. Those who have passed UGC/CSIR NET, GATE in relevant subject, or other similar national level examinations as admitted by the University from time to time, are exempted from appearing in CRET. The admission is based on the merit of the candidates. The merit list shall be based on the total marks obtained by the candidates from the following components: (i) Academic Record (ii) Subjective Test/Personal Interview. Further details can be obtained from the recent CRET Bulletin.

Admission Test : Subjective test/Personal interview of the candidates is conducted by the Committee constituted at the Institute/Faculty level. The subjective test/personal interview shall carry a maximum of 60 marks and in which a candidate is required to secure at least 20 marks to qualify. The qualifying marks for SC/ST and PC candidates shall be 15.

Master of Computer Application (MCA) Program

Eligibility : Bachelor’s Degree under at least 10+2+3 pattern in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate, (including all subjects studied at Bachelor's level except those subjects where only pass marks are required and which do not contribute to the total in the final (degree) marksheet.) with Mathematics as one of the subjects at either Intermediate or +2 (10+2) or equivalent examination, or, Bachelor’s level (as a main or a subsidiary subject).


Admission Process : Admission to MCA program is made through an All India Admission Test (PET) conducted by the University sometime around the month of May every year at Varanasi and other centres such as Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.  The advertisement for the same is normally made in January - February in leading national dailies.

Admission Test : The Admission test normally comprises of questions from 10+2 level Mathematics and Logical reasoning ability, etc. However, desirous candidates are advised to refer to admission bulletin for specific details.

For Admission to 2011-14 Session: There shall be one paper of 150 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions on Mathematical Aptitude (about 100 questions), and Analytical and Logical Reasoning (about 50 questions). Mathematical Aptitude Test Areas (+2 Level): Logarithms, Inequalities, Matrices and Determinants, Progressions, Binomial Expansion, Permutation and Combination, Equations (upto degree 2), Function and Relation, Complex Arithmetic, 2-D Coordinate Geometry, Basics of Calculus, Basic Concepts of Probability. Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Questions will be mainly for checking logical conclusion, graphical/data interpretation, etc.

Intake : The total course intake is 46. There is a provision for reservation of certain number of seats for different categories as per University rules. Few additional seats may also be available for Foreign Nationals as per University rules.

Master of Computer Science (M. Sc.) Program

Eligibility : B.Sc. (Hons.)/ B.Sc. under at least 10+2+3 pattern securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of B.Sc. Course). The subject in which admission is sought must be Hons. subject at B.Sc. (Hons.) level/a subject studied in all the three parts at Graduate level, i.e. Candidates must have studied Computer Science as Hons. subject at B.Sc.(Hons.) level or in all the three years at Under-Graduate level.

Note: Candidate must have qualified in Computer Science/must have studied Computer Science in all the three years. Those who have qualified in other subjects such as Computer Applications, Information Technology, etc. are not eligible.

Admission Process : Admission to M.Sc. program is made through an All India Admission Test (PET) conducted by the University sometime around the month of May every year at Varanasi and other centres such as : Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. The advertisement for the same is normally made in January - February in leading national dailies.

Admission Test : The Admission test normally comprises of one paper of 120 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions of Graduate level in Computer Science.

For Admission to 2011-13 Session: There shall be one paper of 120 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions based on graduate level of the concerned subject.

Intake : The total course intake is 26. There is a provision for reservation of certain number of seats for different categories as per University rules. Few additional seats under supernumerary, foreign and other categories may also be available as per University rules.

Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Computer Science Program

Eligibility : Passed 10+2 or equivalent Examination securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in the subjects Physics, Maths plus any one of the following: Chemistry, Statistics, Geology, Computer Science, Informatics practices and Geography and must have passed in each of the concerned three subjects (as supported by the Certificate issued by the Examining body). Moreover, applicants must not have attained 22 years of age as on July 1st of the concerned year of admission.

Admission Process : Admission to B.Sc. program is made through an All India Admission Test (UET) conducted by the University sometime around the month of May every year at Varanasi and other centres such as: Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.  The advertisement for the same is normally made in January - February in leading national dailies.

Admission Test : The Admission test normally comprises of one Paper of 150 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple choice questions based on +2 examination or equivalent. The Paper shall comprise of three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each containing 50 questions.

Intake : The total intake in B.Sc. (Mathematics group) in Faculty of Science is 460 (both Male & Female) and Mahila Mahavidyalaya is  77 (only female). There is a provision for reservation of certain number of seats for different categories as per University rules. Few additional seats under supernumerary, foreign and other categories may also be available as per University rules.
