The cultural facets of the educational process also have a strong hold in the university. Malviyaji had a clear vision of projecting learning in the form of Kala (music, dance, fine arts) Vidya (humanities, science) and Adhyatma (spirituality).

  About Faculty

The traditions in India are embodied in the Indian arts, music & dance. The Faculty of Performing Arts, B.H.U., ardently works for the promotion and preservation of the traditional arts of music & dance. Due to the relentless efforts of Pt. Govind Malviya and the founder Principal Sangit Martand Pt. Omkar Nath Thakur, a College of Music & Fine Arts was established in the year 1950. The Faculty since its inception, has never looked back and is currently successfully training the students in the field of Indian Classical Arts of Music (Vocal and Instrumental) and Dance, both in North Indian and South Indian generes. The Faculty also has the unique distinction to institute the first department of Musicology in the country. B.H.U. is also the pioneering Central University for starting the courses in music. 

Every year the Faculty conducts UET/ PET tests for the selection of students. The Faculty also runs Diploma courses in Music and Dance, which are very popular among the students. The Faculty has the privilege of having the maximum no. of foreign students in the University, large number of whom are I.C.C.R. scholarship holders.
