The Department of Entomology & Agril. Zoology
imparts teaching of various courses related to
Entomology and Agril. Zoology at UG, PG and Doctoral
levels, Research areas viz., IPM on various insect
of crops, Physiology & Toxicology, Biocontrol,
Insect Ecology, Biodiversity, Soil biology,
Agricultural Acarology and Insect Biosystematics are
well equipped7 laboratories of international
standards and give us a place of pride. All India
Coordinated Research Project on Agril. Acarology,
Network Project on Insect Bio-systematics and Pulse
Improvement, World Bank (NATP) projects on Soil
Biota, IPM on pulses and vegetables and ad-hoc
research projects funded through ICAR on Biocontrol,
Bioecology and Management of various pests etc., are
running in the department. The technologies
developed in these specialized fields have been
validated at farmers' level through on farm adaptive
research for their promotion and diffusion at large
scale in this region of India. Besides teaching,
research and extension activities the staff are
actively engaged in corporate life of the university
holding different position like Member,
Vice-Chancellor’s Technical cell, the Chief Warden,
University Guest House Complex, Associate NCC
Officer in SD Air Wing NCC; Administrative warden of
undergraduate hostel, Hon. Secretary of games and
sports of the Institute, Examination In charge of
the Institute etc. For their outstanding performance
in various fields the staff have been awarded /
honoured with various awards sach as ISPRD
Recognition Award 2003 by the Union Minister of
Agriculture, AZRA Honourary Fellowship Award, Honour
of Distinction as RISHI, MAHARSHI, Dr. M. R.
Siddiqui and Dr. Anand Prakash Award. During the
last five years, 20 renowned scientists in the field
of Entomology and Plant Protection from India and
abroad visited the department. Efforts are underway
to establish an Insect Biotechnology Lab to further
expand our research potential. Besides, the
department will concentrate on Integrated Pest
Management, characterization & management of
Phytophagous mites and acarolog. |
