Significant Research Achievements:

Prof. Singh is credited with development of six varieties of bread wheat, two varieties each of French bean (Rajmash), fieldpea and green gram and one variety each of rice and safflower. Prof. Singh has published 181 research papers in national and international journals of repute, presented 82 conference/symposium papers, written two bulletins and edited one book and guided 29 Ph.D. Research Scholars, 8 of them worked on Improvement of Pulse Crops. Prof. Singh’s main research interests have been in the areas of Mutagenesis, Cytogenetics and Crop Improvement.

He was elected President of the Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development 1990-1994, served as FAO (UNDP) consultant to Philippines 93-94, and member on the Editorial Board of Indian J. Genetics, Scientific Panel of Plant Breeding, UGC Visiting Team, Xth Plan, QRT, Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal; SRC and RAC of a number of ICAR Institutions, NARP Team, Advisor ASRB Selection Board, New Delhi, State Variety Release Committee.  Research Advisory Committee of MPUAT, Udaipur and Senate of Rajnedra Agric. University, Pusa Bihar.Prof. Singh is honorary member of Fraternity of Alpha Zeta, Florida Chapter USA; Gamma Sigma Delta – The Honor Society of Agriculture, Florida USA; Phi Sigma Society – devoted to the promotion of Research in Biological Sciences, Sigma Chapter USA and the Society of Sigma Xi – devoted to the promotion of Research in sciences, University of Florida USA. He is fellow of Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding and Pulses Research and Development. Prof. Singh has played key roles in various committees of AICRP as Chairman of Scientific Sessions, in formulation of technical programmes and member, Varietal Identification Committee. On the basis of his contributions in Pulses Research and Development Prof. Singh has recently received ISPRD Recognition Award 2003 presented by Hon’ble Union Minister of Agric, Govt. of India on December 20, 2003. In view of Prof. Singh’s significant contributions in research, teaching and administration the Banaras Hindu University has appointed him as Professor Emeritus.
