Our Honb'le Vice-Chancellor Prof. Panjab Singh was in the United States from September 19-30, 2007 as a part of the International Visitor Leadership Programme for India. This visit was on the invitation of United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In the course of his busy schedule the Hon?ble Vice-Chancellor took out the time to meet and interact with our Alumni. He had close and successful interactions with our Alumni in Washington, New York, New Jersey and Chicago. The Alumni of Banaras Hindu University are indeed remarkable for the affection and attachment they have for their Alma Mater. No wonder we look on our Alumni as a source of strength and support for the future progress of this great University.

An informal meeting was organized by BHU Pharmacists Association of America (BHUPAA) on September 22, 2007 at New York. The BHUPAA is a group of Alumni of the Department of Pharmaceutics currently in USA. This group formed in 1975 has nearly 70 Alumni as its members. The New York Meet was organized by Shri Chandrakant Trivedi (1975 batch) along with Shri Vinod Shah (1975 batch), Shri Dushyant Desai (1973 batch) and Shri Dinesh Jaiswal (1970 batch). Other eminent members of the international visitor leadership programme namely Prof. Devi Singh (Director, IIM Lucknow) and Prof. Surabhi Bannerjee (Vice-Chancellor, Netaji Subhash Open University) also attended this Meet.

BHU Alumni Meet at New Jersey:

The Alumni Meet at New Jersey was organized on September 23, 2007 jointly by IT-BHU Alumni Association, BHU Parivar and BHUPAA. This Meet was participated in by about 50 Alumni with their family. Special efforts were taken to organized this Meet by Shri Yogesh Upadhyaya (Chemical Engg., 1977 batch), Dr. Prabhat Pandey (Ph.D. Chemistry, 1977), Prof. Krishna Kumar (B.Pharm, 1972 batch) and Miss Vijaya Keshari (Ph.D. Chemistry, 1983).Shri Chandrakant Trivedi was kind enough to arrange for the photographer, video recording, sound equipment etc. Our other Alumni Volunteers were Shri Anil Singh (Electronic Engg. 1995 batch), Dr. Anand Singh (Ph.D. Physics, 1981 batch), Shri Manu Goyal (Mech. Engg., 1993 batch), Shri Neelesh Prabhu (Comp. Sc. Engg., 1996 batch), Shri Vinod Shah and Shri Dushyant Desai. A presentation on starting research and education on agriculture genomics was given by Dr. Janardan Yadav (Ph.D. Physics, 1973). Another presentation was on bio-vaccine research by Dr. Hari Asthana (Chem. Engg., 1966 batch). The Master of Ceremonies was Dr. Shashi Karna (Ph.D. Chemistry, 1983).In his address the Hon?ble Vice-Chancellor outlined his vision for the development of the University. He informed our Alumni that BHU will be entering many collaborative agreements with many Universities. Our Vice-Chancellor also discussed his plans for the further development of the rapidly expanding Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Barkacha, Mirzapur. Prof. Panjab Singh shared his vision for making the Institute of Technology and Institute of Medical Sciences better than the best in India. He requested our Alumni to come forward to further strengthen their Alma Mater academically and financially.

BHU Alumni Meet at Chicago:

An Alumni Meet was organized on September 26, 2007 at Chicago by Shri Naresh Jain (Elect. Engg., 1974 batch) this meet was attended by our Alumni, members of the media and other dignitaries. Shri Tilak Marwah (B.Pharm, 1974 batch) and Shri Pradeep Chintagunta (Mech. Engg., 1984 batch) also actively contributed in organizing the programme. The Meet was also attended by Shri Jatinder Bedi of the Indian Reporter.Along with our Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor dignitaries from other Universities like Prof. Devi Singh (Director, IIM Lucknow); Prof. V.P. Kharbanda (Vice-Chancellor, National University of Educational Planning and Research, New Delhi); Prof. R.P. Singh (Vice-Chancellor, University of Lucknow); Prof. R.G. Harshe (Vice-Chancellor, University of Allahabad) and Prof. V. Khole (Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai) also were present at the Meet.A Chicago Chapter of the IT-BHU Alumni Association was formed which is headed by Shri Naresh Jain.
