Department of Indian Languages
(Nepali, tamil, Kannada)
The Department of Indian Languages is one of the oldest
departments of the Faculty. At present it consists of three sections
viz. Nepali, Tamil and Kannada, which were introduced in 1943, 1945
and 1976 respectively. The Department proposes to introduce two-year
Diploma Course in Shaiva Siddhanta Philosophy, Comparative Literature
and Lexicography.

Research Focus of the Department
This department promotes research in comparative perspective with Hindi
and Sanskrit languages involving the language taught in the department
i.e. Nepali, Tamil and Kannad. Uptill now five theses have been awarded
for Ph.D degree.
Achievement during 2008-09
One Research Scholar in Nepali, Mr. Nima Sherpa has been awarded by Rajiv
Gandhi National Fellowship-2008 to pursue his Research Work in the Dept.
of Indian Languages
