Bacteria of the genus Azospirillum are associated with a large number of agriculturally important crops and grasses and are known as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Since they reside in the rhizosphere and soil they have to adapt to the fluctuations in abiotic factors such as temperature, oxygen, osmoticum, salinity, alkalinity etc. We are trying to understand the role of extra-cytoplasmic function (ECF) sigma factors, anti-sigma factors and anti-anti-sigma factors in sensing and regulating abiotic stress response. Following are the main topics of current research,
Role and regulation of extra-cytoplasmic function sigma factors (RpoE) and heat shock sigma factors (RpoH) in A. brasilense
Mechanism of gene regulation by anti-anti-sigma factors in A. brasilense
Regulatory networks involving sigma factors, anti-sigma factors and anti-anti-sigma factors
Synthetic biology for the production of pharmaceutical compounds by engineering carotenoid biosynthetic pathway in A. brasilense
Role of bacteriophytochrome in the physiology of A. brasilense
