The Department of Geography is at present offering (i) three year Graduate Honors (B.A/B.Sc. (Hons.) Course, (ii) two year 4-semester Post Graduate (M.A./M.Sc.) Course in the main campus. It also offers doctoral-level research programme in various research areas, leading to the award of the Ph.D. degree in Geography.The admissions to the above programmes are done on the basis of all-India admission tests. This year department has started one-year 2-semester PG Diploma in Remote Sensing & GIS in the main campus and in BHU’s Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Barkachcha. The department is proposed another special course - a two-year 4-semester M.Sc. (Tech.) Course in Geoinformatics in BHU’s Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Barkachcha.

 Doctorate of Philosophy

Eligibility:
The candidate must have passed Master's degree in the concerned subject OR Masters degree in any one of the allied subjects pertaining to the Department/School as per rules provided in the ordinance, with at least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average.

Admission Process: Admission is normally done two times a year (January and July) based on a Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) conducted by the University. Those who have passed UGC/CSIR NET in relevant subject, or other similar national level exams as admissible by the University, are exempted from appearing in CRET. The admission shall be based on the merit of the candidates. The merit list shall be based on the total marks obtained by the candidates from the following components: (i) Academic Record (ii) Subjective Test/Personal Interview. Please refer to the CRET Bulletin for more details

Admission Test: Subjective test/Personal interview of the candidates shall be conducted by the Committee constituted at the Institute/Faculty level. The subjective test/personal interview shall carry a maximum of 40 marks and in which a candidate is required to secure at least 20 marks to qualify. The qualifying marks for SC/ST and PC candidates shall be 15. For more details please consult the brochure.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) in Geography

Eligibility: The eligibility for admission is B.Sc. (Hons.)/ B.Sc. and B.A. (Hons.) under at least 10+2+3 pattern securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of d B.Sc. Course) and Arts subjects considering all the three years of B.A. Course). Candidates must have studied Geography as Hons. subject at B.Sc.(Hons.) and B.A. (Hons.) level or in all the three years at Under-Graduate level.

Admission Process: Admission to M.Sc. and M.A. program is made through an All India Admission Test (PET) conducted by B.H.U sometime around the month of May every year at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad centres. The advertisement for the same is normally made in December - January in leading national dailies.

Admission Test: The Admission test normally comprises of one paper of 120 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions of Under-Graduate level in Geography.

Intake: The total course intake is 50. There is a provision for reservation of 15% and 7.5% of total seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively. Few additional seats under supernumerary, foreign and other categories may also be available as per B.H.U rules.

Bachelor of Science (Hons.) And Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Geography

Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing & GIS 

Duration:                         2 Semesters - One Year Course 

Eligibility:                        With minimum 50% aggregate in one of the following:   
(i) B.Sc. with a combination of any two of these subjects--Geography,
Geology, Botany, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Agriculture, Soil Science, Computer Science   

(ii) B.Sc. (Hons.) in any one of the subjects mentioned above.  

(iii) B.Tech., B.E., A.M.I.E.

(iv) M.Sc. in any one of the subjects mentioned above  

(v) B.A. (Hons.)/M.A. in Mathematics, Statistics, Geography 

Intake:                              : Max. 20     Min.10

Admission Process        : Candidates will be selected for admission on the basis of interview and academics marks or performance.

Special Fees:                   Rs.40, 000/- to be paid in two equal installments at the beginning of each semester
