Academic activities

Besides teaching undergraduate and postgraduates, nursing students are also taught. IGNOU has selected our department to teach and train medical professionals for the award of PGDMCH. The UNICEF has established here the State Child Survival Resource Centre. Our faculties have actively participated in many Training Programmes like Newborn Care, Breastfeding, UPHSDP, PALS & NALS training programes etc. are also conducted. We organise regular seminars, case discussions, clinics, short talks, etc. for the PG students. Quiz programmes under the auspices of Indian Academy of Pediatrics and National Neonatalogy Forum are organized every year.

Research activities:

Various international projects sponsored by agencies from Japan, Sweden, UK, USA, UNICEF have been completed. Many independent or multicentric projects funded by ICMR, CSIR, DST, NFI, DBT, etc are either completed or ongoing. The department has also been actively involved in many national health programmes and also in research in the field of growth, nutrition, maternal anemia and impact on fetus, trace elements, free radical injury etc besides offering clinical and teaching services. The present impetus in research is on Epilepsy, Nephrotic Syndrome, Thalassemia, Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia, Behavioural problems and Childhood Bronchial Asthma
