  • Defects of various etiologies on various regions of the body are covered by various flaps (including fascial flaps, expanded flaps on extremities)
  • Tissue expansion to expand limited tissue so that large defects can be covered from a smaller region
  • Vascular interventions mainly in the emergency setting
  • Management of all kinds of trauma in the emergency setting - scalp avulsion and penoscrotal avulsion
  • Maxillofacial fractures managed by reduction and plating, latest being the biodegradable plates
  • Hand surgery - congenital disorders like syndactyly, polydactyly etc, tendon transfers, management of hand fractures, flexor tendon surgeries, distraction osteogenesis etc.
  • Surgery for hypospadias (mainly single stage procedures), epispadias and intersex disorders
  • Nodovenous shunts and aesthetic contouring for lymphedema of the extremities
  • Cleft lip and palate and associated anomalies
  • Underdeveloped and malformed ears treated by various methods including total ear reconstruction
  • Rhinoplasty (nose job), blepahroplasty (for baggy eyelids), augmentation and reduction mammoplasty (enlargement or reduction of breast size).

In routine plastic surgery OPD, all kinds of patients pertaining only to plastic surgery are seen. In emergency, all kinds of trauma including vascular trauma and burns are dealt with.

The department has 19 beds for plastic surgery, one special ward and a dedicated 6 bedded burn unit.

Investigations conducted
Routine haematological investigations are done in the laboratory of the department.
