Admission

·        Courses For Bachelor of Laws (Full Time)

For the purpose of admissions in two different kinds of LL.B. Courses, Banaras Hindu University conducts two Undergraduate Entrance Tests (UET) during April / May in every year. Admissions are made according to merit of the UET, and fulfilling the eligibility requirements and availability of seats in respective courses. These courses are as under:

1.   LL B (Hons)  Duration: 6 Semesters (3 Years)

For the purpose of LL.B. (Hons) (Three Year/ Sex Semester ) Course admission, the Banaras Hindu University conducts Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET), during 3rd /4th week of May every year. Admissions are made according to merit in the UET, subject to fulfilling of eligibility requirements mentioned below and availability of seats.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Com./ Shastri (at least 10+2+3 pattern) securing a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate considering all the subjects in the three years except those subjects where only pass marks are required and which do not contribute to the total in the final (degree) mark sheet. OR any other Degree under at least 10+2+3 pattern recognized by the Bar Council of India for the purpose of admission to LL.B. Course securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate considering all the subjects in the three years (aggregate being calculated as mentioned above).

 "(Note- As per directive of the Bar Council of India, the candidates who have obtained 10+2 or Graduation/Post-graduation through open Universities system directly without having any basic qualifications for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission in Law Courses)".

Location & No. of Seats : Faculty of Law (230 M&F)

There shall be one Paper of 120 minutes (Two hours) duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions. These questions shall be based on General Awareness and Current Affairs, Common Legal Knowledge, Aptitude and Mental Ability. The Paper will also include two sets of multiple choice questions on Language comprehension, one each in Hindi and English, where the candidate is required to answer either the Hindi language set or the English language set but not both.

2.   BA LL B (Hons)   Duration:10 Semesters (5 Years) (Under Special Courses of Study)

 

For the purpose of BA LL.B. (Hons) (Five Year/ Ten Semester ) Course admission, the Banaras Hindu University conducts Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET), during 3rd /4th week of May every year. Admissions are made according to merit in the UET, subject to fulfilling of eligibility requirements mentioned below and availability of seats.

 

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicant who has successfully completed/ is appearing Senior Secondary School (10+2) or equivalent (Such as 11+1, “A” level in Senior School Leaving Certificate course) from a recognized University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course. However, the applicant who have obtained 10+2 through open Universities System directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies shall not be eligible for admission to 5-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Course. Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission not below 50% of total marks in case of General category applicants :45% in case of OBCs and 40% in case of SCs & STs applicant.

"(Note- As per directive of the Bar Council of India, the candidates who have obtained 10+2 through open Universities system directly without having any basic qualifications for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission in Law Courses)".

 Location & No. of Seats: Faculty of Law ;& Minimum 30 and Maximum 60, M&F ; Course Fee: Rs.60,000/- per annum, in addition to the regular University fee.

There shall be one Paper of 120 minutes (Two hours) duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions. These questions shall be based on General Awareness and Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude and Mental Ability. The Paper will also include multiple choice questions on English comprehension.

 

·         Courses For Master of Laws (Full Time)

For the purpose of admissions in three different kinds of LL.M. Courses, Banaras Hindu University conducts one Postgraduate Entrance Tests (PET) during May / June in every year. Admissions are made according to merit of the PET subject to the choice given by candidates , and fulfilling the eligibility requirements and availability of seats in respective courses. Three kinds of LL.M. courses are as under:

1.     LL.M.    Duration: 4 Semesters (2 Years)

( this course is also known as LL. M.(General) because within the University this course comes under the category of 'General Course' and it is a non self financing course ).

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicant who has successfully completed 3-Year LL.B. / is appearing in Sixth Semester of 3-Year LL.B. after Graduation under at least 10+2+3 pattern or successfully completed 5 year LL.B / is appearing in Tenth Semester of 5 year LL.B. under 10+2+5 pattern recognised by the Bar Council of India securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in LL. B. Degree.

Location & No. of Seats: Faculty of Law: 38 (Approx.)

Note: In addition to the aforesaid total 38 seats , there exists10 per cent Supernumerary Seats under category of 'Paid Seats':

2.      LL.M. (HRDE)   Duration: 4 Semesters (2 Years), (Under Special Courses of Study)

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicant who has successfully completed 3-Year LL.B. / is appearing in Sixth Semester of 3-Year LL.B. after Graduation under at least 10+2+3 pattern or successfully completed 5 year LL.B / is appearing in Tenth Semester of 5 year LL.B. under 10+2+5 pattern recognised by the Bar Council of India securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in LL. B. Degree.

Location & No. of Seats: Faculty of Law; & Minimum 05 and Maximum 15, M& F.

Note: LL.M. (HRDE) is basically a self financing course (it comes under the category of 'Special Course' in the University) and annual fee of this course, in addition to the regular University fee, is Rs. 30,000/-(Thirty Thousand) per annum.

3.     LL.M.  Duration: 2 Semesters (1 Year), (Under Special Courses of Study)

  MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicant who has successfully completed 3-Year LL.B. / is appearing in Sixth Semester of 3-Year LL.B. after Graduation under at least 10+2+3 pattern or successfully completed 5 year LL.B / is appearing in Tenth Semester of 5 year LL.B. under 10+2+5 pattern recognised by the Bar Council of India securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in LL. B. Degree. The applicant should not be more than 35 years of age on July 1st of the year of seeking admission.

Location & No. of Seats: Faculty of Law; & Minimum 10 and Maximum 20, M&F.

Note: LL.M. (One Year) is basically a self financing course (it comes under the category of 'Special Course' in the University) and annual fee of this course, in addition to the regular University fee, is Rs. 60,000/-(Sixty Thousand).

There shall be one paper of 120 minutes duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions on Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Law of Crimes, Environmental Law, Public International Law, Indian Evidence Act, Hindu Law and Muslim Law.

 

·         Course For Doctorate in Law (Full Time)

·         Ph D (Full Time)

Banaras Hindu University conducts Common Research Entrance Tests (CRET) during March / July in every year. Admissions are made according to merit of the CRET, and fulfilling the eligibility requirements and availability of seats in the Faculty. Candidates qualified NET / JRF are exempted from CRET.

·         One Year (Two-Semester) Post Graduate Diploma Courses (Part- Time)

  MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: For all diploma courses running in the Faculty an applicant shall have Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognized Indian University or equivalent degree from a Foreign University. Candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate.

Location & No. of Seats: Faculty of Law; & Minimum 20   and Maximum 60, M& F.

Note: Part –Time Diploma Courses are basically a self financing course (it comes under the category of 'Special Course of Studies' in the University and annual fee of this course, in addition to the regular University fee, is Rs. 20,000/-(Twenty Thousand) per annum.

Admission shall be made strictly in order of merit which will be based on weighted marks in the qualifying Examination/ other Examinations/ written test/ interview/ any other criteria as per the decision of Faculty for all diploma courses.
