PROF. (Dr.) B. C. Nirmal

He obtained Maters Degree from Banaras Law School in 1974, joined Banaras Law School as a Lecturer in 1976 and was elevated to the posts of Reader and Professor in 1985 and 1998 respectively. He is a Member of the Governing Body of the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) since 2000 and recently he has also been elected as Vice-President of the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi . He is Vice-President of All India Law Teachers Congress also. He is a Member of the Academic Councils of Banaras Hindu University and was till recently a Member of the Academic Councils of Gujarat National Law University, Gujarat . He is Honorary Professor G.N.L.U and was Visiting Fellow North-Bengal University and has been associated with Board of Studies, Faculty Boards and Research Committees of various prestigious Universities. He visited the Hague (1985) and Taipei (2006) for prestigious academic programmes. He has delivered lectures at Indian, Foreign Universities and Chaired a number of national and international conferences. He was also Executive Editor of Banaras Law Journal (2000-2009). He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of International Law. He has to his credit four books till date.  Dr Nirmal has more than 35years of experience of teaching LL.B and LL.M classes. He has guided and supervised more than 75 LL.M dissertations (mostly on Human Rights Law) and 12 PhD students. He has been Founder General Secretary of the All India Clinical Law Teachers Conference and Treasurer of B H U Teachers’ Association for five years. He has organized many seminars, Workshops, Lectures and Academic meets and attended and presented research papers at more than 140 national and international conferences. He has also in his credit an impressive array of over 96 high quality research papers published  in the prestigious national and international journals and chapters contributed to books edited by distinguished scholars and legal luminaries and  has also reviewed books for journals. He has worked on 5 major and 1 minor project. His books and articles have been recommended as reference materials in the UGC curriculum and in foreign Universities curriculum and favorably commended and referred to by foreign as well as national scholars. He has made an indelible imprint in the fields of legal research and education. His original contributions in the areas of International law, Human Rights, Humanitarian law, Refugee Law, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Consumer Protection etc. have been sufficient enough for him to be acknowledged as a distinguished legal scientists of India and has won the respect of legal scientists both in India and abroad. He has recently been awarded Life Time Achievement Award by All India Teachers' Congress and Indian Intellectual Council (Bhartiya Vidwat Parishad) for his contribution to the field of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.Currently he is Vice Chancellor of NUSRI, Rachi.
