Specialization:

We have been actively engaged in the area of Coordination and Organometallic Chemistry. Initially we began with synthesis and characterization of arene ruthenium and structurally analogous rhodium and iridium complexes with special emphasis on their possible application in catalysis and biocatalysis. We successfully developed numerous systems which find wide applications as excellent synthon and potentail anticancer agents. We have also been interested in development of the oragnometallic chemistry of dipyrrins and BDP analogues. Notably, we have been able to expand the organometallic chemistry of dipyrrins and BDP analogues exhibiting excellent photophysical and photochemical properties. The systems developed by us have shown great promise as multi-channel sensors for various species, anticancer agents, and excellent capping agents for Au/Ag nano-particles. Also, we have developed some interesting poly-pyridyl systems with multifaceted value which may find potential use in the development of metal based pharmaceuticals. Recently, we came up with the idea of applying metallacycles-/polynuclear metal complexes as an efficient probe for various species including ADP, ATP etc, Further, we has developed functional group specific chiral and achiral gels where conformational reorganization in the ligand/complex leads to gelation via J-aggregation and exhibit interesting properties with wide applications.
