  • Supramolecular and Bioinorganic Chemistry: Development of metal based anti cancer Drugs, Development of receptors for biologically relevant cation and anions. Apart from Supramolecular and Bioinorganic Chemistry, our current research interests include metal based catalysis of organic reactions and development of metal based anticancer drugs and cell imaging studies. Current activities of our research group have attracted world wide attention with regard to
  • Synthesis of Cu(II) 2,2'-bipyridyl complexes and their site specific chemical nuclease activity and cytotoxicity. A new finding that IC50 of a targeted drug depends upon recovery time. These complexes are also active against Dalton's lymphoma cell lines at nano-molar concentrations.
  • Cytotoxic Activity and Photocleavage of DNA induced by a Pt(II) cyclophane. The UV irradiation-induced nicking of supercoiled DNA in a buffer solution by this complex suggests that it also shows photo-induced nuclease action in aqueous medium. Cell imaging studies using the HeLa cell line carried out in presence of Pt(II) complex is considered to be one of the first examples of Pt complexes applied as fluorophores in cell imaging.
  • Molecular recognition for selective binding with urea molecules: Foundation of a new receptor of urea, an important metabolic product. The experimental findings have been supported by theoretical calculations.
  • Synthesis of Ru-DMSO-Cl-Chalcone complexes and their DNA binding and cleavage activity together with topo II inhibitor property.
