Brief writeup on area of specialization/awards/achievements:
 

The research activity of our group is based on Experimental Materials Science. Our research studies include:
(a) Quantum dots (QDs) and their applications:In this area we synthesize and characterize different types of QDs such as TM-doped CdS,CdSe,ZnS,ZnSe etc. Different physical properties such as structural,optical,electrical,electronic and magnetic properties are being studied. We develop different devices for example: Rectifying diodes, photo-detectors, Light emitting diodes (LEDs),Field effect light emitting transistors (FELET) by using synthesized different QDs. (b) Transition Metal di-chalcogenides (TMDC):Synthesis and study of transition-metal di-chalcogenides.Synthesized TMDCs are being used for different applications. (c) Multiferroics: In this area we synthesizes different kinds of multiferroics (bulk, thin films and nanoparticles) exhibiting simultaneously two or more of different ferroic orders such as (anti)ferroelectricity, (anti)ferromagneticity, or ferroelasticity in the same materials with a strong magnetoelectric (ME) coupling (appearance of an electric polarization P upon applying a magnetic field H and/or the appearance of a magnetization M upon applying an electric field E) at room temperature which will be very useful for many applications.
(b) Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors (DMS): In this area of research we synthesize DMS materials (thin films of nano particles) which show magnetic as well as semiconducting properties simultaneously in the same materials.
For characterization we use: XRD, SEM & EDX and TEM, DTA and DSC.

Following measurements are being carried out:

  • Quantum efficiency, detectivity and responsivity

  • AC/ DC magnetization (using VSM and MPMS)

  • Photo-current and dark current measurements

  • Dielectric constants and magneto capacitance

  • I-V measurements (~ 10 K)

  • Optical absorption and PL

  • FTIR and Raman studies
