Area of specialization/awards/achievements:
 

Area of specialization is Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics.The research group works in the area of Neurobiology and Disease biology. We are trying to understand mechanism(s) of function(s) of paired box genes and proteins (Pax6 and Pax5) in neurodegenerative diseases, neuropathy and immunological surveillance. The cell lines, yeast, and mouse are our working model systems. Age associated alterations in Pax6, its co-localization and interaction with SPARC (Secreted Protein Acidic Rich in Cysteine) and p53 in mouse brain and eyes indicates Smad3 and p53-mediated auto-regulation of regulator Pax6. Tissue specific isoform of Pax5 appears critical for activation of microglia in brain or B cell/T cell mediated immunity. Some other novel proteins interacting with Pax6 are being explored, and characterized. The up-stream and down-stream targets of Pax6 are also being investigated.
