The 18th DAE-BRNS High Energy Physics Symposium will be held during December 14-18 at BHU, Varanasi. The Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, organizes seminars and workshops to promote interaction among active research groups and individuals. The presentations and discussions on the research efforts of various R & D projects are intended to promote Science and Technology in an effective manner. High Energy Physics Symposium is one of the established National Symposia held in alternate years. Topics covered in the symposium includes 1. Neutrino Masses and Mixings 2. Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology 3. Electroweak Physics (Top, Higgs) 4. QCD and Hadron Physics (including low energy) 5. Quark Matter and Heavy Ion Collisions 6. Heavy Quarks, Rare Decays and CP Violation 7. Beyond Standard Model (SUSY, Extra-d etc) 8. Quantum Field Theory and Mathematical Physics 9. String Theory 10.Future Accelerators and Detectors (LHC, ILC, INO ..) It is expected that this time symposium would build and expand on the above mentioned topics.

For those who have submitted Abstracts:
1. The submitted abstracts are reviewed by the committee of experts for 15 20 minutes of oral presentation. Exact timing can be checked once details of schedule for oral presentation are put on the web by the end of November.
2. Due to time constraints we will have limited number of oral presentations and so the rest of submitted abstracts are considered for poster presentation.
3. Make sure that title, authors list and affiliation are correct on the webpage.
4. Submit 2 3 pages PDF file of write up in Phys Rev format by 20th of November so that it could be printed in the proceedings at the time of symposium.
5. Try to complete the required inputs. Incomplete abstracts will not be accepted.

People arriving at Airport shall be informed individually about the details via e-mail. Taxi arrangements will be done.
University vehicle with the template (HEP08) shall be there at Varanasi (Cant) and Mughal Sarai Railway stations to pick you up as per tentative schedule given below:
13/12/2008: 5:30am, 10:30am, 06:00pm and 07:00pm. 14/12/2008: 5:00am, 07:30am, 08:30am and 09:00am.
Else you can hire a Auto-Richshaw to Department of Physics, BHU for Rs. 60/150.Volunteers will be there to guide you further.
Railway Reservation:
Railway reservation counter (9 am / 1 pm & 2 pm / 4 pm) is located close to academic area near Naria gate of BHU. Accommodation: The financial support for accommodation will be provided to limited number of participants. Accommodation shall be available from 13th to 18th of December 2008. We are planning to end the sessions by lunch time on 18th. Allotment shall be made as soon as we know about your arrival and departure plan. Details shall be put on the web by the end of November 2008. Food:
The food arrangements are made at Swatantrata Bhawan (Venue for the Symposium) starting from Dinner on 13th to lunch on 18th.
Provisions & Stationary:
Markets are at
the main gate of BHU (Lanka), inside TA/DA: A limited travel assistance will be provided to the students and young faculty members particularly from colleges and universities (who have no other sources of funding). Local hospitality shall be taken care from symposium grants. Situation will be clear by the end of November. Registration: Registration fee of Rs. 500/- from students and Rs. 1000/- from others shall be charged at the time of registration on 13th evening (04 - 07 pm) and morning (8:15 - 9:15 am) at Swatantrata Bhawan. The payment of registration fee may be done at the venue. DAE-BRNS High Energy Physics Symposium 2008 Title of your talk X. Tabcdxyz,
B. C. Suvwx and V. Wxyz* Title should be in 14 pt style Times New Roman and black in colour. Authors name should be in 12 pt style Times New Roman and presenting author's name must be under line. The email address of corresponding authors should be written as given shown in the format. Postal address of the university/institute should be in 9 pt, style Times New Roman and Italic. Title, Authors name and address will be centered. SEND IT BEFORE OCTOBER 30, 2008. Running text should be in 10 pt Style Times New Roman and justified format. Authors are free to write References and put figures and tables if space permits. No need to mention paragraphs caption such as Introduction, Experimental Details etc, you can just change the paragraph. All the running text material will be in single spacing.

Both the overhead projector and multimedia slide projector options are available for oral presentation.
Internet / Browsing: Internet browsing facility can be availed at computer-corner in Swatantrata Bhawan ground floor on production of HEP08 badges.

The holy city of Varanasi, known as the city of temples and learning, is a place of great historical and cultural importance. This religious capital of India is situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges and is presided over by Lord Shiva. It is the heart of India and an epitome of the synthesis of cultures, religions and races. The river-front of the city is decorated by hundreds of well built ghats which is a unique feature. The holy Buddhist place, Sarnath is in its precincts. Varanasi is the premiere most place of oriental learning. Simultaneously it is keeping pace with modern advanced knowledge. It has three universities .one Tibetan Institute and an Institute of Arabic Studies. The city is reputed for silk fabrics, perfumes, artistic brass and copper wares and a variety of handicrafts. It is an important centre of literature, art and culture. It has produced great poets, Writers, musicians and scholars. This vibrant city of joy knowledge and liberation has a magnetic attraction for people all over the world. General Information about Varanasi:
Varanasi is well connected with all the important places of India by air and railways. Its distance from Delhi is about 800 km. The University is 10 km away from (Cant) Varanasi Railway station, 20 km from Mughalsarai and about 32 km from Airport.
Swatantrata Bhawan (Main Auditorium)
The Symposium will be held during December 14 18, 2008 at Swatantrata Bhawan, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi 221 005, India. Swatantrata Bhawan is a state-of-art lecture hall complex with two lecture halls and one auditorium having capacity of about 1000 audiences. Swatantrata Bhawan is a 15 minutes walk away from the department of physics and around 40 minutes walk from main gate of the University.
