The Faculty of Social
Sciences consists of five Departments and three independent Centers.
It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses and Ph.D. Programmes
in the Departments of Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology
& Sociology. The Faculty also offers Masters programme under the
self- financing scheme in Social Work, Criminology Personnel Management
& Industrial Relations (PMIR) and Public Administration. The three
independent Centers in the Faculty, viz., Center for the Study of Nepal,
Center for Women's Studies, and Malaviya Center for Peace Research (MCPR)
provide various
interdisciplinary research inputs in their respective areas through
seminars, workshops, publications and allied activities. The Centre
for Integrated Rural Development attached with the Faculty has been
offering certificate programmes and a range of outreach activities.
In addition the Department of Economics has a research unit, the Department
of Political Science has the Centre for the Study of State Governments
and a Canadian Studies
Development Programme. The Department of Psychology has a Center for
Guidance and Counselling and the Department of Sociology has a Women
Cell attached with it.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is well endowed in offering facilities
for higher learning. In addition to the departmental libraries, the
Faculty has its own well stocked library. The three Centres have also
built up an impressive collection of books and journals. A sizeable
number of foreign students enrol themselves at the Masters level as
also for its Ph.D. Programme.
A number of research projects are in operation in the various Departments
and Centers of the Faculty. Teachers and research scholars of the Faculty
have obtained various distinctions and awards and have to their credit
several published books and research papers in national and international
journals.
