Varanasi suffers extremes of weather. A short spell of spring which falls in March-April is followed by a grinding summer. In fact the temperature starts rising in April but the hottest days are in May and early June with the mercury ranging between 42C and 46C. Around mid-June, the monsoon sets in and the rains continue till October. The average rainfall here is 11.1 cm. Varanasi shivers through December and January when the minimum temperature ranges between 4C and 7C. Winter months are mostly dry, with cold winds.
