Introduction:

Banaras Hindu University is first to start Pain Clinic as well as PDCC in Pain and Palliative Care in India creating a history. Pain and Palliative Care Division , Dept. of Anaesthesiology came into the existence in the year 1980 as Pain Clinic OPD in Room No. 205. In patient Pain relief services started in 1996 with the allotment of two beds in ENT Ward. and Post doctoral Certificate Courses ( PDCC) in Pain and Palliative Care was commenced in July 2008. For the academic contribution in the field of Pain and paliative Prof.V.Rastogi as Head of Division The Hansraj Nayyar annual Oration at ISSP Conference in 2009 and will be awarded ISSP Life time achievement Award in 2011. At present more than 3000 patients of chronic and cancer pain attend Pain clinic every year..
